Our western lifestyle is plagued with stress, life pressures, toxins in our environment, foods we eat and drink all accumulate as toxins (ama) in our bodies and minds. In Ayurvedic philosophy, it is believed that ama is the root cause of all disease. Signs of ama include poor digestion and elimination, issues with sleep, inability to focus, irritability, anxiety, pain and weight gain. This is why in Ayurveda, cleansing is recommended at the change of each season (winter, spring, summer and fall). The Ayurveda Simple cleanse is like a reset bringing your body into balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
The Ayurveda Simple Cleanse is a whole body cleanse, that can be completed in 7, 14, or 21 days. There are three phases of this cleanse, Preparation, Purification/Detoxification, Rejuvenation/Rebuilding.
You eat a low-fat, whole foods diet eliminating foods that commonly cause allergies. The focus will be on cleansing the liver and gallbladder and improving digestion. This phase can be 2 days to 1 week. At the same time, you will begin self-care rituals, exercise/movement and less dependence on electronics.
This phase is all about removing ama/toxins from the digestive tract. You will enjoy only cooked foods during this phase, eating 2-3 meals per day. Your menu includes cooked fruit, soup and Kitchadi – a delicious one pot meal that is balanced in protein, carbohydrate and fats, seasoned with tasty digestive spices. You will continue your self-care practices and add a few new ones. Herbs and supplements may be added to your individual purification plan.
In this phase you will begin to reintroduce foods you have eliminated back into your daily diet. This will be done in a slow and methodical way in an effort to identify potential food allergies. We may add supplements or herbs at this phase as we begin to rebuild the digestive system.
